BRIGID
TRIPLE GODDESS :
Maiden, Mother, Crone
Also Known As : Brigit, Brighid, Brid, Brigante, Bride, Brigdu, Briginda
Pre-Christian Celtic Deity who was later adopted by the church as a Saint. While many other goddesses' teachings were buried and banished, some believe infiltrated the church and therefore her energy remains widely known and celebrated.
Celtic goddess of healing, poetry, crafting, protection, waterways & wells, the alchemical force of the eternal sacred flame. The flame that burns brighter each day.
She is associated with birds, bees, honey, cows, milk, fairies, the birch tree.
February 1st is known as "St. Brigid's Day" where festivals are thrown in her honor to mark that start of spring in Ireland.
February 1st is rooted in the Celtic festival of Imbolc (or Imbolg), which marks the start of spring and the milk giving time for animals. Imbolc is a pagan festival celebrating the turning of the wheel, celebrating the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.
This is a time when the Earth begins to wake and warm, energy stirs deep below, Spring does not happen overnight., it gets closer a little more everyday. This is a time period that we ourselves can feel spring begin to awaken with in us. With more sunlight each day, we are gifted more energy and insights to our coming projects.
First the ground warms, and then the seed responds to the environment telling it that it is time to emerge.
There are many ways in which she is celebrated, one being the tradition of "The BRAT BRIDE" which is a blessing of fabrics. On the eve of Imbolc, communities would place fabric outside sometimes tied to a bush, tree, balcony, or their door, and ask that Brigid come to bless the fabric as she passes by, to be used in healing rituals for people and animals throughout the year.
A Poem To Brigid :
Inspired by your tender greatness, unbreakable resilience, your fire and your flow, your protection and your patience, your divine timing, your unshakable presence, I feel you weaving golden strands of existence.
Standing at the threshold of what was and what is - Spring.
The snow is melting,
All that has been touched is renewed.
The birds are singing while they are visiting, I know soon flowers will bloom.
The ice is thawing, maple syrup soon flowing, everything reminds me of you.
The Earth is waking, and we are too.
Dreams come to fruition, when watered, protected and true.
Each month, on the full moon, I dance in a circle of goddesses.
I feel called to thank you.
Brigid, Goddess of the wells, sacred fire, fertility, arts, crafts, the home.
This imbolc I give gratitude for all that I am, all that I have, and all that is.
I nourish my inner fire, I know it can not be put out or tamed.
I know this flame I carry has been passed down for generations.
I hear the grandmothers laughter in the distance.
I feel their prayers for me.
My ancestors warm their hands by my fire.
My daughter comes here for warmth and protection.
I stoke the flames and feed it my passions, my attachments, my love.
I trust my inner knowing. My heart knows where I am going.
I surrender and rise.
I greet my spirit guides.
These feelings are mine and I am free to create, express, to unravel, unfold.
I ask the universe to hold me closely.
Wrap me in violet flames of protection.
Burn away all that does not serve me.
Help me to remember what I do not know I have forgotten.
Help me to be brave.
To open my heart and be part of the change I want to experience in the world.
Let my light burn brighter each day.
Spring.
There is a season for everything.
I put fabric out for you to bless Brigid, I will treat it sacredly.
Bring it with me to ceremony.
I set intention to heal and protect.
Mother earth and all living things.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything.

The wheel of the year turns, and I dance while the birds sing.
Thank you to all that is, all that was, and all that ever will be.
Thank you to the seen and unseen realms for your protection.
Thank you to the directions, the elements, and everyone reading this.
